Sugilite: A Collector’s Gem with a Royal Hue

First identified in 1944 by Japanese petrologist Ken-ichi Sugi, sugilite is a rare purple mineral found in select geological formations, including its original discovery site on Iwagi Islet, Japan. Known for its vivid to deep violet tones, sugilite has earned alternative names such as lavulite, luvulite, and royal azel among gem and mineral enthusiasts.

While often pronounced with a soft "g" (as in ginger), the correct pronunciation carries a hard “g”, honoring its namesake—Sugi, as in geese.

This collection features hand-selected sugilite specimens and jewelry, chosen for their rich coloration, form, and rarity.
