Okenite: The Delicate Cotton of the Mineral World
Okenite is a soft and fibrous silicate mineral most often found growing in basalt geodes, where it forms delicate, white "cotton ball" clusters. These visually striking formations consist of radiating needle-like crystals, which are bendable yet extremely fragile, making them treasured display pieces for serious mineral collectors.
Often found alongside zeolites, okenite is notable for its tactile softness and ethereal appearance—though it's best admired, not touched.
First described in 1828 from specimens found on Disko Island, Greenland, okenite was named in honor of German naturalist Lorenz Oken (1779–1851).
This collection features carefully selected okenite specimens, chosen for their intact crystal tufts, formation quality, and origin.
10% of every purchase supports environmental foundations in okenite-producing regions.
