Stilbite: A Radiant Zeolite with a Bundled Past

Stilbite is a member of the zeolite group, known for its delicate, fan-like crystal clusters and soft pearly luster. Once believed to be identical to heulandite, stilbite was officially recognized as a distinct species in 1818. The name “desmine”—meaning “a bundle”—was also proposed, and is still commonly used in Germany to describe its sheaf-like crystal formations.

The English name stilbite derives from the Greek word stilbein, meaning “to shine,” a nod to the mineral’s silky, reflective surfaces. Found in basaltic cavities and geodes, stilbite often occurs in pale peach, pink, cream, or white hues and is a favorite among collectors for its elegant, radiating crystal habits.

This collection includes carefully selected stilbite specimens, chosen for form, luster, and matrix quality.
