Background:
The Lady Annabella Mine began surface exploration in July 2020 in the last highly mineralized bench of the old Eastgate Quarry. Previously known as the Blue Circle Cement Quarry, the site had produced fluorite since the 1960s.
Together with Rogerley, Diana Maria, and Heights mines, Weardale became world-famous for its emerald-green fluorite with vivid fluorescence, along with rare color varieties such as yellow, lilac, rose-pink, and multi-zoned crystals.
Note for collectors: Mining operations at Lady Annabella have now ceased as of June 2023, making these fluorite specimens increasingly scarce and highly desirable on the collector market.
Impact:
10% of this purchase supports the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) [EU].
