Background:
Moldavite is a rare green tektite formed about 14.7 million years ago during a massive meteorite impact in what is now the Nördlinger Ries crater in Germany. The molten material was ejected into the atmosphere, cooling as it fell back to Earth, with most specimens found across Bohemia and Moravia.
In 1900, Austrian scientist Franz Eduard Suess recognized the unique surface texture of moldavite, noting its resemblance to meteorites, and classified it as a special type of tektite. Today, the consensus among geologists affirms its cosmic impact origin, making it one of the few gemstones linked directly to an extraterrestrial event.
These rings feature baguette-cut moldavite from South Bohemia, prized for its rich dark green color and clarity. With a sleek sterling silver band, they balance natural history and modern design.
