Background:
Moldavite is a rare green tektite formed about 14.7 million years ago when a meteorite struck present-day Germany, creating the Nördlinger Ries crater. The molten debris cooled as it fell to Earth, scattering across Bohemia and Moravia.

First described in 1900 by Franz Eduard Suess, moldavite was recognized for its distinctive surface texture and cosmic origin. Today, nearly all moldavite is sourced from South Bohemia, with Moravian specimens being rarer but typically larger and browner in tone.
