Background:
Tourmaline’s spectrum of colors has made it one of the most versatile and admired gemstones throughout history. In the 18th century, brightly colored stones were shipped to Europe in large quantities by the Dutch East India Company, earning tourmaline the nickname “Ceylonese Magnet” for its pyroelectric properties—able to attract and repel ash when heated.

By the 19th century, tourmaline became prized not only for jewelry but also for science, as its ability to polarize light made it valuable in early optical experiments. In jewelry history, tourmaline has been a gem of choice among elites, including Empress Dowager Cixi of China, who famously collected vast amounts of pink tourmaline from California mines.

These solitaire rings showcase pink and green tourmalines in round-cut stones, set simply in sterling silver bands for an elegant, everyday design.
