Andalusite: A Misnamed Marvel of Spain

Andalusite was first named by French mineralogist Delamétherie, who mistakenly believed the specimens he studied came from Andalusia, Spain. In fact, they originated from El Cardoso de la Sierra, in the province of Guadalajara—making this a classic case of mineral misnaming that stuck.

Despite the geographic mix-up, andalusite is admired for its pleochroism—a unique optical property that allows it to show different colors when viewed from different angles, often blending earthy greens, reds, and browns. Its durability and shifting hues make it a favorite among both gemstone cutters and collectors.

This collection features hand-selected andalusite specimens and jewelry, chosen for their color variation, structure, and historical relevance.
