Variscite is a relatively rare phosphate mineral, valued for its soft luster, natural green hues, and fine polish. Often mistaken for turquoise or chrysocolla, variscite stands out for its lighter bluish-green to deep forest-green tones and distinct, waxy appearance.

First identified in Germany, variscite has since been found in several notable localities, including Utah and Nevada (USA), Queensland (Australia), and parts of Brazil. It is sometimes referred to by alternate locality names such as Utahlite, Barrandite, Bolivarite, and Lucinite.
