Larimar: The Gem of the Caribbean Sea

Discovered along the shores of the Dominican Republic in the 1970s, Larimar is a rare variety of blue pectolite found only in a single region of the world. Its name was coined by local Miguel Méndez, combining his daughter’s name “Larissa” with the Spanish word for sea, “mar,” to reflect the stone’s striking resemblance to the Caribbean waters.

The earliest pieces were found as alluvial fragments, washed downriver into the sea. A search upstream led to the discovery of the now-famous Los Chupaderos mine, the only known source of this tranquil blue stone.

Our Larimar pieces are selected for their color, pattern, and origin authenticity, offering you a piece of both natural beauty and human story.

10% of every purchase supports environmental foundations in the Dominican Republic and surrounding regions.
