Formed approximately 14.7 million years ago by a massive meteorite impact in what is now the Nördlinger Ries crater in Germany, moldavite is a natural glass created by cosmic force. As molten terrestrial material was ejected into the atmosphere, it cooled mid-air and rained down across parts of modern-day Bohemia, Moravia, Lusatia, and Austria.

With its distinct olive-to-deep green hue, moldavite is prized for its impact origin, scarcity, and unique surface texture. Its extremely low water content and chemical composition set it apart from other natural glasses, making it a favorite among collectors of geological rarities.
