Jet, sometimes known as a Lignite, has an organic origin having been created through decaying wood under extreme pressure. The wood comes from a family of Araucariaceae trees which are an ancient group of cone-bearing trees that existed during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.

Jet has been used by people mourning for centuries. The Romans believed it would protect them from evil entities, especially the “Evil Eye”. Part of the lore behind Jet is it being considered a stone of luck. For centuries it was said to bring luck to anyone who would carry it. Jet can easily be carved and has been done so for thousands of years.

Remove jet jewelry before engaging in sports or physical activity that could result in the stones becoming damaged.

Pearls have been coveted by people as symbols of wealth and status for thousands of years. A Chinese historian recorded the oldest written mention of natural pearls in 2206 BC.

As the centuries progressed toward modern times, desire for natural pearls remained strong. Members of royal families as well as wealthy citizens in Asia, Europe, and elsewhere treasured natural pearls and passed them from generation to generation.

The spherical shape of some pearls led many cultures to associate this gem with the moon. In ancient China, pearls were believed to guarantee protection from fire and fire-breathing dragons. In Europe, they symbolized modesty, chastity, and purity.
